Scott Kelby's Second Annual Worldwide Photo Walk was this past Saturday and I attended the one in nearby Brenham. Several of us gathered under the leadership of Santa Fe photographer and author Steven Walenta.
Steven told us to watch what's in the backgrounds of our photos and to remember that an interesting picture is better than a technically correct photo. With that said he pointed out a couple of things unique to the area and off we went in our separate directions.
NOT a professional streetwalker! A professional photographer!
If you live in Brenham, Texas, close to Brenham, Texas, or could get to Brenham, Texas, on July 18, you have the opportunity to take a photo walk with Santa Fe professional photographer, author, and teacher Steven Walenta.
Steven will come back home to Texas to be the local walk leader for the worldwide Scott Kelby's Second Annual Worldwide Photo Walk on that date. The walk will start on the east side of the beautiful and historical Washington County courthouse. Then we'll (you're darn right I'll be there) wander around the downtown area for several hours, all the while taking photos under Steven's professional guidance.
Because of the heat, and to make use of the best natural lighting, the walk will start at 6:45 P.M.
I guess this is last year's video so don't get confused by the date and prizes on the video. THE DATE THIS YEAR IS JULY 18!!!! Don't know nuthin' about no prizes fer dis here year!
To register for this event, or if you have questions, go here.
Steven has strong ties to our area, having taught photography classes for the City of College Station and Texas A & M University from 1995 to 1999. Since 2002, he has taught classes for the Santa Fe Community College in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
I'll post about this exciting walk again as the date gets closer.
On second thought, I kind of like all that stuff there. The painting is a still life I did years ago. It's fun to still have the original items that are in the painting.
These three chests have been in IT Guy's family for generations. It's now our turn to honor them with a place in our home. We proudly welcome the chests and their vintage contents.
They are filled with baby shoes, old wedding albums, vintage photos, and old quilts.
My M-I-L antiqued this chest years ago. A Steven Walenta print, a wedding present from the photographer and author himself, hangs above the chest. Look at the depth in that picture. It looks like you could just reach through that frame into that old room, doesn't it?
Have you ever been on a scavenger hunt? They were fun, weren't they? Running around in the dark with your friends. Going to strange houses to find stupid stuff such as turkey feathers, black nail polish, and empty eggnog bottles.
But enough about last week! Come with me on a short scavenger hunt right now. Our "find" list is short and I promise you'll enjoy it.
First, we're going to YouTube to find a Bluegrass Gospel song written and sung by my friend Larry Farmer. Just click on this link. Be sure to leave a comment so he knows you've been there.
Aren't you glad you went? I knew he was a singer but I'm blown away by his sound and the words he's written.
Next, we're going to find the Star Trails in the photo above. Oh, sure. You think you've seen star trails before but until you've seen this book by my friend Steven Walenta, you haven't seen anything. There's no comments to leave here but the book would make a great gift...to yourself or to someone else you love.
