Life on hold!

WARNING: Partial breast photo ahead.

Don't you just love it when you meet someone new and they totally get you?

You know what I mean. You feel like you've known them all your life - or, at least, all their lives if they are eversomuch younger than you. And let's face it. Nowaday, who ain't younger than me, if you know what I mean!

Anyway, I met Amy and her sister Ann on vacation. They are cousins once removed, which means they are my cousin Chuck's children, making my kids and Amy and Ann second cousins. Their children will be third cousins, in case you've always wondered about such things - unless I can get Amy to marry one of my boys [legal in both states!] and then their children would be...goodness, I don't know what they'd be. Maybe monsters.

Anyway, Amy gets me. I know this because here is her email to me:

"Aunt Demanda, [She calls me that just because I snapped my fingers at her to get some gum!] I just read your news on your blog. Please tell me this is some crazy story concocted just so you can talk about your boobs on your blog!! [Does she get me or what!] However, I know this isn't true, since you would need NO reason at all to talk about your boobs on your blog. [Oh, she so gets me!]"

Isn't she gorgeous!

Anyway, since I don't want to disappoint Amy, let's boob talk.

I went to the radiologist to get my breast biopsies done. First, they deadened the area with a shot of xylocaine, just like your dentist uses. It stings just like any other shot. If you ask nice, they'll turn the screen of the computer towards you and you can watch it all since they use the sonogram machine to make sure they hit the tumor. After the first biopsy, I didn't bother looking again. Creepy!

Apparently, there are two types of needles they could use. One suctions part of the tumor into the core of the needle and then snips it off. The other one shoots the hollow needle into the tumor. They used the later on me. Two loud clicking noises are heard with each biopsy. They said they'd take three biopsies but took five instead.

I can't say I didn't feel anything but it was certainly something I could handle. I went home and put an ice pack on it. Of course, just like at the dentist, as the xylocaine wore off, I felt more but as long as the dogs didn't jump on me or someone didn't hug me, I was fine.

There is bruising. The very dark spot pretty much
shows the size and location of said tumor.
I named it Dennis the Menace because
it's a pain in the arse breast!

So now I wait for the results. I asked the radiologist if he could tell anything from looking at the extracted tissue and he said no. But, he said, the image on the sonogram does not look good.

Waiting....

  1. You know, Cher. Beyond telling you prayers are being sent, I'm at a loss.

Let's see...I could tell you that of all the people I know...you can handle being boobless. But seriously? Is that a nice thing to say? I'm trying to speak for your spirit here.

I could tell you I've been there, done that. But, I haven't. Well, I've had the needle biopsy. But, no one told me the sonogram didn't look good. So, I can't begin to "feel ya" on that. I know you want that pun to be intended...run with the pun. You know you want to.

There are a lot of stupid, bad things I could say.

I'm going to stick with prayers are being sent, and leave it at that.

The cousin sounds like a darling. I'm glad you got to meet Amy. Kindred spirits are to be treasured.

Prayers, my Texas Woman friend. ~Mindy

  3. I'll be sure to keep your breasts lifted up. In prayer. What were you thinking?

OK, so humor may not be the best approach. But you know I care about you. Seriously... prayer sent.

  5. Hey "Demanda", out here in "blogland" we've all got your back, or in this case your "boob" with lots of good karma, prayers and all the other stuff that goes into making something scarey, a little less frightening and more positive. Thinking of you!

  10. Miss Demanda (love the nickname), you just hang on to that boob, that bruise will be turning a lovely green in no time! I honestly speak from experience, the waiting is the worst! Just place your worries in God's hands. Do know that God never said we would not deal with trials, but did promise to hold us when going through them. My heartfelt prayers are for your comfort and know that we are thinking of you. Please let us know how things turn out... hugs!

  11. You know, Cher, he might have been referring to your tatas in general! Just kidding, not bad for an old gal. I'd have to get a winch to get mine lifted up for a photo. BTW, who took the photo?
Speaking of boobs, he should never have made that statement! It's not his job to express an opinion. Pay no attention to the clown behind the shield!
I'll be praying for you (and the doctors...and the scientists...and the techs...and anyone else who comes near you)!
    XOXO

  15. Cher, Sorry you had to endure all those needles. What a pain! I'm praying for you everyday. You're an amazing woman and I know you'll overcome no matter the results, but I hope and pray you only hear good news. Besides, I'm scared that you'd post more pictures if you need those lumps removed! I'm not sure I'm ready for that. ;-)

  16. Cher, I am so glad you are back! I have been wanting so badly to hear from you, but wasn't prepared to see quite so much of you! :)

Girlfriend, I have been right where you are now. The very worst part is the wait and I suggest that you call every day asking for the results. Don't wait! You will feel better just knowing! And, if it makes you feel any better, several years ago, MD Anderson told me that I need to prepare myself because my tests looked bad. After all the waiting and personal turmoil, they were wrong! You think positively! Whatever happens, you are not going to go through this alone! I will become your private chauffeur...after all, I have gotten quite good at this job!

I am close by, ready, willing and able! Yes, I know...that is what we have in common! :) Scoot over, girlfriend, I'm putting my fat ass beside you!

    I'm praying for you!

  17. Hey Cher,

We "yankee's" are praying for you daily! You have the strength and attitude to get you through this! Hang in there girl...

BTW...LOVE the nickname! Demanda huh... mine was graciously bestowed upon me by a coworker... Evileen. After 20 years of good friendship she still calls me that. Personally, I think she forgot my name.

Anyhow...all the love in the world...hang tough!
