Wow! What a little imagination will do!

I met Josie at the magazine rack of our local grocery store. I could tell by the publications she was thumbing through that she appreciated the same Texican style of decorating I do. So I introduced myself, and now we’re trading decorating ideas like old friends. Let me take you on a tour of the metal barn she’s turning into a home.
You know you're in for a treat when the entry to a piece of property looks like this. Behind the inviting grove of trees is Josie's barn.

This is looking out from under the entry. I love the design, so much so that I redid my header with it. What do you think?

But before you get to the house, you have to pass this beauty. If my horse Bubba was still alive, I'd hook him up to this wagon and steal it off!

When you finally came into sight of the barn, you'll catch your breath at the VERY different patio cover over the entry way. Four stately cacti stand tall, holding a huge sombrero frame. Someday, when the house is done (hopefully October), the hat will be covered with canvas, shading visitors as they enter Josie's home. Unbelievable!

Here's a close up of one of the cacti. The whole thing is wrapped in tiny lights. I need to go back at night to see what that lighting does to the dark countryside. Josie bought the whole thing from a vendor who for years had a booth at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Every time she saw him she told him she wanted it. Finally, he said he was retiring, and he wanted her to have it. For an unbelievably low token price, it was hers. And I thought I'd lugged home some outrageous stuff!

To the right is what Josie started with, just a plain, red metal barn.

Below is the left side of the building and what the facade will look like when it's all finished. The wood on the wall is from an old fence. The doors are recycled from Habitat for Humanity Restore.

Josie and her brother Eddy laid the stone patio themselves. It curves beautifully around most of the building.

The tall doors are also recycled. Josie's standing in front of them to show you how high they soar.

This gal's a hard worker, doing it all after her full time job weekdays and on weekends.

And all with makeup on. I'm so jealous!

  1. Good for her! And good for you for sharing. I love that stone patio. And what a hoot the sombrero with cacti are! Nice touch with your new header. I like it.

  2. That's so cool seeing people build their dream house. We did the same. Cool patio too!
